Pool Manager Job Description:

A Pool Manager position is a great summer job for college students and experienced high-school students. Most of our Pool Managers have a few years of Lifeguarding experience but are now looking for something more challenging and with more responsibility.  The Swimming Pool Manager is in charge of all activities at their assigned facility, including staffing and scheduling. A Pool Manager will report directly to the Swimming Pool Supervisor.

He or she must be energetic, motivated, with strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.  The Pool Manager will Lifeguard and must therefore be Certified Red Cross Lifeguard, and Certified CPR/First Aid.

The Pool Manager oversees the safe and proper operation of the entire aquatics facility, including;

  • Supervise all assigned pool personel
  • Make sure that all pool equipment is operating, including pumps and filter
  • Manage lifeguard schedules
  • Maintain correct chemical levels
  • Keep appropriate swimming pool records
  • Oversee cleaning and general swimming pool maintenance
  • Coordinate pool parties
  • Maintain customer relations with patrons

A key part of any Pool Manager and lifeguard’s mission is the prevention of accidents. Therefore, one of the most useful measures of the effectiveness of a lifeguard force is not the number of rescues, or the skill with which they are executed, but the absence or reduction of drownings, accidents, and other medical emergencies. While the ability to save lives is of paramount importance to lifeguarding, the ability to prevent life-threatening situations is equally as important. We are proud to promote the use of the 5 minute scanning strategy as developed by Tom Griffiths, Ed. D.
