Pool Manager Job Description:

A Pool Manager position is a popular summer job for college students and high-school students with some lifeguarding experience.

Most of our Pool Managers have a few years experience as a Lifeguard and are now looking for something more challenging and with more responsibility.

A Pool Manager reports directly to the Swimming Pool Supervisor and is responsible for all activities at that location, including staffing and scheduling. He or she must be energetic, motivated, with strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. At times, the Pool Manager will also be a Lifeguard and must therefore be Certified Red Cross Lifeguard, and Certified CPR/First Aid.

The Pool Manager oversees the safe and proper operation of the entire swimming pool, including;

  • Supervise all assigned pool staff
  • Coordinate pool parties
  • Maintain correct chemical levels
  • Keep appropriate swimming pool records
  • Ensure that all pump, filter and other pool equipment is operating
  • Maintain lifeguard schedules
  • Oversee cleaning and general swimming pool maintenance
  • Manage customer relations with swimming pool patrons

A key part of any Pool Manager and lifeguard’s mission is the prevention of accidents. Therefore, one of the most useful measures of the effectiveness of a lifeguard force is not the number of rescues, or the skill with which they are executed, but the absence or reduction of drownings, accidents, and other medical emergencies. While the ability to save lives is of paramount importance to lifeguarding, the ability to prevent life-threatening situations is equally as important. We are proud to promote the use of the 5 minute scanning strategy as developed by Tom Griffiths, Ed. D.
