Pool Manager Job Description:
A Pool Manager position is a popular summer job for college students and experienced high-school students. Most of our Pool Managers have Lifeguarding experience but are now looking for something more challenging and with more responsibility. A Pool Manager of an aquatics facility is in charge of all activities at that location, including staffing and scheduling. A Pool Manager will report directly to the Swimming Pool Supervisor.
At times, the Pool Manager will also be a Lifeguard. He or she must be energetic, motivated, with strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. All lifeguards and Pool Managers must be Certified Red Cross Lifeguard, and Certified CPR/First Aid.
The Pool Manager will oversee the safe and proper operation of the entire aquatics facility, including;
- Supervise all assigned pool staff
- Ensure that all pump, filter and other pool equipment is operating
- Maintain correct chemical levels
- Keep appropriate swimming pool records
- Manage lifeguard schedules
- Oversee cleaning and general swimming pool maintenance
- Coordinate pool parties
- Maintain customer relations with swimming pool patrons
A key part of any Pool Manager and lifeguards mission is the prevention of accidents. Therefore, one of the most useful measures of the effectiveness of a lifeguard force is not the number of rescues, or the skill with which they are executed, but the absence or reduction of drownings, accidents, and other medical emergencies. While the ability to save lives is of paramount importance to lifeguarding, the ability to prevent life-threatening situations is equally as important. We are proud to promote the use of the 5 minute scanning strategy as developed by Tom Griffiths, Ed. D.
