A key part of any Pool Manager and lifeguard’s mission is the prevention of accidents. Therefore, one of the most useful measures of the effectiveness of a lifeguard force is not the number of rescues, or the skill with which they are executed, but the absence or reduction of drownings, accidents, and other medical emergencies. While the ability to save lives is of paramount importance to lifeguarding, the ability to prevent life-threatening situations is equally as important.
